This bird is called Cattle Egret, and it hasnt been given that name in vain... If you ever happen to be travelling in an indian train and you are lucky enough to get the window seat, you will notice when you look outside at the countryside that this bird is a constant companion of the buffaloes which are not only the ploughers(tractors have left no job for them, but the lucky ones still see them ploughing) but also the chief milk producers in india. The bird follows the cattle which loosens the soil and exposes the deeply buried insects upon which the bird feasts. It forms an essential link in the food web by controlling the soil insect population. If you want to see this bird you have to reach out to the nearest countryside and sit at the edge of any farm.
